Available disk space can affect performance
Adequate free disk space is important for both DBA Manufacturing performance and routine system maintenance.
The DBA database grows over time, and additional disk space is also required for database backups, product updates, temporary files, and normal Windows server operations.
Low disk space can slow the server
When the drive containing DBA Manufacturing becomes too full, Windows and Firebird have less room available for normal file operations.
Low disk space can contribute to:
Slower screen and report response
Longer posting and processing times
Slower overall server performance
Failed database backups
Problems creating temporary files
Difficulty performing database maintenance or restores
Insufficient space for future database growth
Product updates create database backup copies
DBA product updates create backup copies of your database in the DBA Manufacturing folder as part of the update process.
These backup copies provide an important recovery point, but they also consume additional disk space. Over time, accumulated update backups can become significant, especially when the live database is large.
For this reason, the amount of free disk space should be reviewed before installing a product update.
The drive must have enough available space for:
The current live database
The database backup copy created during the product update
Normal database growth
Any DBA Backup Manager backup files stored on the same drive
Temporary files and normal Windows server operations
Leave adequate free space
Do not allow the drive containing DBA Manufacturing to become nearly full.
As a general guideline, maintaining at least 15–20% free disk space provides Windows and database services with room to operate efficiently. Larger databases may require substantially more free space, particularly before a product update, backup, or restore.
Review old backup files when space becomes limited
If available disk space is becoming low, review the DBA Manufacturing folder and your normal backup locations for older database backup files that may no longer need to remain on the server.
Before deleting backup files, make sure your organization has an appropriate backup retention policy and that required backups have been copied to your normal off-site or server backup system.
Check disk space when troubleshooting system-wide slowness
If DBA is generally slower than normal throughout the system, check the free space on the server drive containing DBA Manufacturing and the database.
Low available disk space can affect the entire server and should be corrected before investigating more application-specific causes.
