Antivirus scanning can affect performance
Antivirus and endpoint security programs can potentially affect DBA system performance, particularly when real-time scanning is applied to the live database or DBA program files.
Real-time scanning can slow database activity
DBA Manufacturing performs frequent reads and writes to the Firebird database. If antivirus software inspects each of these file operations, additional processing is introduced between DBA and the database.
This can result in slower screen response, longer processing times, delayed posting routines, slower reports, or intermittent pauses throughout the system.
Scheduled antivirus scans can also temporarily affect performance by competing with Firebird for disk and processor resources.
Review antivirus exclusions with your IT provider
Your IT provider should review whether appropriate antivirus exclusions are configured for the DBA server.
Depending on your security requirements, exclusions may be appropriate for:
The live DBA database location
The DBA Manufacturing program folder
DBA database backup files or backup folders
Other Firebird-related files that are continuously accessed by the database server
Antivirus protection should not be permanently disabled. Any exclusions should be reviewed and configured by your IT provider according to your organization's security policies.
Check antivirus activity when troubleshooting system-wide slowness
If DBA is generally slow throughout the system rather than within one particular screen or process, check whether an antivirus scan or other endpoint security activity is occurring at the same time.
If performance improves when the scan completes, antivirus activity may be contributing to the slowdown.
