We get many questions from customers on how to report on items that have inventory on hand but have had little or no sales for a period of time.   The example below will isolate items with zero stock on hand.

Report Solution

  1. Generate an Inventory > Analysis > Inventory Transactions report.
  2. Create a series of columns and choose an appropriate time range that you want to report on your items.   In the screen shot example, we created a quarterly view for the trailing 8 quarters ending in Q3 2024 (screenshot 1).  The timeframe and range is up to you.  You can perform a series by the Month, Quarter or Year for the time period you wish to analyze.
  3. Chose the header filter to include items that have had no activity and include inactive items and load the data and run the report for total usage (screenshot 2).
  4. You can use the Customize button and make sure to make the Qty OH field visible.  You may also want to make the Inventory Cost field visible as well (screenshot 3).
  5. You can use the data column filter for the Qty OH field and make sure the filter the results to only items with a Qty OH greater than zero (screenshot 4).
  6. If you are trying to isolate items with zero transactions, you can filter on your Total column and select Total = zero (screenshot 5).  You may just want to instead just sort by the Total column and sort the report for the zero total at the top.   This may give you an idea of some of your items that are low usage but not completely inactive.
  7. You now have a list of items that have stock on hand, yet have had no activity for the range of time that you have selected to analyze.  You can output this list for further analysis.
