Common E-Mail errors and their suggested resolution

Socket Error 10053

This could mean an active anti-virus program with email scanning is running and blocking the outbound message, if so you will need to configure your anti-virus program to allow the email to pass. This error can also mean a network timeout occurred, which is more prevalent on a wireless connection or a PC that has both wired and wireless connections. It could also mean just a general network error happened and you can try to send later.

Socket Error 10060

This could mean that you have an active firewall or other 3rd party internet security program blocking DBAEMAIL.EXE from accessing the Internet. It can also mean that you have an incorrect port number specified in your SMTP settings (i.e. you have port 25 but your server expects port 465). It can also mean a network timeout similar to error 10053.

Socket Error 10061

This error typically indicates you have an active firewall or other 3rd party internet security software that is blocking communcation from DBAEMAIL.EXE to the Internet. You can reconfigure or disable your firewall or other security software to allow DBA email to work.

Socket Error 11001 (Host not found)

This error typically means that you have an incorrect address entered into the SMTP server address field. Verify the address entry (i.e. perhaps .net instead of .com, etc) is correct. If you verify the address properly and it still does not work, have your IT support staff check your DNS settings on your PC to see if you are resolving DNS names properly.

Socket Error 11004

This typically means you have repeated your reply-to email address in the SMTP server address field. Make sure you are entering the address of the SMTP server properly (they will not have an @ symbol in their address)

Error 5.7.1 (Access Denied)

This error means that you have not specified to use authentication to communicate with your SMTP server, and it is expecting you to do so. In your email settings, check the box for using authentication and enter your proper username and password for the SMTP server.

Error 5.7.8 (Authentication Failed)

This error means that you have either your username or password (or both) incorrect in your authentication settings. You will need to contact your SMTP server administrator to get the proper logon credentials and put those values into DBA.

Connection Timed Out

This error is unfortnately not very specific. Similar to an error 10053, it means that DBA did not receive a response from the SMTP server before the connection assumed that the server could not be reached, so it "timed out". This could be caused by an active firewall or other 3rd party internet security software or your network router blocking/filtering communication to the SMTP server, it could indicate your PC is experiencing general networking problems, or perhaps your connection to the Internet is experiencing problems. This is also more common on PCs using wireless networking. You can attempt rebooting your PC and / or sending the email at a later time, or you may need to contact your IT Support for assistance.
